Inderpuri turns into a war zone

Around 300 men stood outside the local police station, pelting stones following an allegation that six policemen, including an SHO, had raped a local resident inside the police station.

Police said around 15 people were injured in the incident including a few media persons.

The situation remained tense for almost the entire day. Additional force had to be called to control the situation, police said.

The protests began on Monday night around 11:00 when people ransacked the police station.

“The family members of the victim and a few local residents started raising slogans outside the police stations. They also pelted stones at us,” said a senior police officer who did not give his name, as he is not authorised to speak to the media. “We filed a case of rioting against them on Monday night.”

Tensions again started brewing around 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Angry local residents gathered around the police station and started pelting stones at it.

Meanwhile, the chief medical officer (CMO) of Ram Manohar Lohia hospital, where the ‘victim’s’ medical examination was done, said, “From the medical examination, we have ‘not’ found any use of physical force on the victim.”

CMO S.K. Sharma, however, said the final report would come from the forensic department. “The medical examination of the accused policemen are yet to be conducted,” he said.

Crime Branch officials said they were recording the statement of the woman. They said they could register a case after going through her allegations.
