India, Egypt ink 7 pacts

India and Egypt on Tuesday signed seven pacts after the meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and president Mohammed Morsi, the the first Arab spring leader to visit India.

India and Egypt on Tuesday signed seven pacts after the meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and president Mohammed Morsi, the the first Arab spring leader to visit India.

With India looking at keeping old warmth with Egypt, both sides are exploring ways to promote ties to the level of a strategic partnership.

Morsi, who stressed on deeper economic ties, also pitched for increased Indian investment in Egypt’s Suez Canal project.

“President Morsi and I have just concluded extensive and very productive discussions... We agreed that his visit, at an important juncture for Egypt, offers us a great opportunity to renew our relationship and take it to a different level of engagement and cooperation,” Singh said.
