"An inquiry has been set up and the report will be given in a week," a Northern Railway spokesperson said on Friday.
Bhagwan Porwal, a fruit-seller from Rajasthan's Kota city, slipped and fell between the platform and footboard of the Indore-bound Intercity Express Wednesday night. He was trapped there for almost two hours, and later died while on way to hospital due to blood loss.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police BS Gurjar said they did their best to save the man.
"We did our best as much as we could, it is very unfortunate that we could not save him," Gurjar said.
