It was a stuffy 35.5 degrees Celsius, one notch higher than the normal mark. That accompanied with 98 per cent humidity in the air made it a muggy weekend for Delhiites.

Good news is that Delhi’s monsoon deficit, running at around 49 per cent until Friday, has now reduced to 23 per cent.

Delhi’s total monsoon rainfall this year is 352 mm since June. “A majority of that has happened in just three days, when it rained excessively, while the other days remained dry,” said a Met official.

Chances of significant rains in the next few days are bleak, forecasters said.

The National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting predicted light showers, while the India Meteorological Department said there could be partly cloudy sky.

“The systems that cause rainfall here are weak at the moment after Friday's downpour. It will take a while to revive. But we might see some scattered thundershower,” he added.

Among international forecasters, BBC Weather is the only one that sees chances of heavy rain over the next two days. America’s Weatherundrground thinks there is not more than a 20-40 per cent chance of rain over the next couple of days.

On Sunday, the mercury could go up to 36 degrees Celsius, the weatherman said.
