Jamia V-C Jung is Delhi’s new lt governor

Najeeb Jung, a former Indian Administrative Services officer and the present vice-chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, has been appointed lieutenant governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, an official statement from Rashtrapati Bhawan said on Monday.

Najeeb Jung, a former Indian Administrative Services officer and the present vice-chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, has been appointed lieutenant governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, an official statement from Rashtrapati Bhawan said on Monday.

The communiqué also named former Delhi Police commissioner KK Paul as the next Meghalaya governor.

Jung, 62, who replaces Tejendra Khanna, is a former IAS officer who served in key administrative positions. Jung, who grew up in Darya Ganj, has a masters in history from Delhi University, apart from an MA from the London School of Economics in social policy and planning in developing countries.

Jung has been a frequent columnist and vocal about issues concerning Muslims. He joined the IAS in 1973 and worked for 22 years in different capacities, including as joint secretary with the central government.
