The ongoing drama between Fernandes' longtime associate Jaya Jaitley and estranged wife Leila Kabir led to police intervention at his official residence on Wednesday. Fernandes (80), suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, continued to remain oblivious to it all.

Jaitley, accompanied by two younger brothers of Fernandes, Richard and Michael, wanted to enter his official residence at 3, Krishna Menon Marg.

Jaitley wanted to collect the books, furniture and paintings, which she said belonged to her. One of the staff members of Fernandes, S.D. Singh said Jaitley was allowed to come alone, but she came with 8 to 10 people.

“She said on Tuesday that she would be coming by 12:30 p.m. and we agreed to that, but she flouted the understanding and therefore we called the police," Singh said.

He said Richard and Michael had already met Fernandes in the morning at the Panchsheel Park residence.

An angry Jaitley said she had told Leila Kabir that she would come to collect her belongings from the official residence. "These people are defaming the legacy of George, who never closed his doors to anybody. I am not a terrorist, why am I being denied entry?"

Soon after the arguments between the two sides, over a dozen policemen were deployed near the official residence.

Kabir said there was no question of denying Fernandes' brothers access.

“Richard and Michael met George in the morning,” she said, adding she had also written to Jaitly a few days ago that she can visit official residence and look for her stuff.
