DCP (south) Chhaya Sharma said Arun Kumar Pandey was arrested from Vasant Kunj at 2pm. “Pandey, a resident of Ghaziabad, was arrested for firing at Jagbir Singh, 60, after Singh’s Esteem car accidentally brushed against Pandey’s Hyundai i-10 near Church Road in Vasant Kunj,” Sharma said.

Police said Pandey was on his way to Andheria More when the incident took place. Singh escaped the attack as Pandey’s bullet hit his seatbelt buckle.

Singh was travelling with two of his relatives when he entered into a verbal duel with Pandey. This infuriated Pandey and he fired twice in the air and once at Singh with his licensed pistol.

“Pandey has surrendered before the police and said he had fired in self-defence,” she said.

“Singh said Pandey had tried to shoot him, but it was his belt’s buckle that saved his life. We have found evidence, in the form of a dent mark on the seat belt’s buckle and three cartridges,” she said, adding that a case of attempt to murder had been registered.
