Accepting the proposal, the Congress Legislative Party passed a resolution condemning the trend of lavish spending in such social gatherings.
Dikshit said such weddings also cause lot of traffic snarls in the city.
“The present trend is making lives of the common man burdensome. A resolution condemning this trend was unanimously passed in the CLP meeting,” a statement issued by chief minister’s office read.
“We should avoid such wasteful expenditure. I told them that care should be taken to ensure that such functions do not affect the traffic and disturb the neighbourhood,” Dikshit said.
The wedding ceremony of Congress leader Kanwar Singh Tanwar’s son hogged the headlines recently where the bride and the groom’s family together spent reportedly more than R150 crore in four functions spread over a week.
Dikshit said she will write to Delhi police chief BK Gupta to strictly enforce all laws for holding of social functions. HTC
