The new terminal, which would start operations from April 19, would replace the old departure terminal 1B. However, all airlines from 1B would shift in phases, which would take about a month.

Most airlines would operate from the new terminal but Air India (domestic) and MDLR Airlines would keep operating from terminal 1A.

Go Air and Jagson Airlines too would shift to 1A instead of the new terminal 1D.

Panel to function from IGI in case of hijack

In a high-level security meeting held by the Cabinet Secretary on Friday, it has been decided that only one committee, the Central Committee, should function at the IGI Airport in place of the existing two-tier structure in case of an emergency at the airport.

The decision has come in the aftermath of the February 1, 2009 incident when one of the passengers on an IndiGo plane threatened to “hijack the plane”, resulting in an emergency landing and drama at the airport.
