Four days after staying off the out patient department (OPD) that made hundreds of people suffer, more than 300 resident doctors of Lady Hardinge Medical College and Sucheta Kriplani Hospital resumed work on Monday afternoon.

The resident doctors had been protesting since last Thursday against the alleged manhandling of a senior resident doctor by a driver of the hospital on the evening of March 30. The doctors were demanding suspension of the driver.

On Monday, the doctors resumed work only after hospital administration formed an inquiry committee to look into the allegations. "They have assured us that on the basis of the inquiry report action will be taken," said a resident doctor.

In a similar incident, resident doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Monday threatened to stop work if the security within hospital premises was not beefed up. A woman resident doctor was allegedly slapped by the relatives of a deceased person on Sunday afternoon.

"The person was admitted in the B-2 ward. On Sunday afternoon he passed away and the relatives attacked the resident doctor on duty," said Dr Debjyoti Karmakar, president, Resident Doctor's Association, AIIMS.

The guard on duty reportedly didn't help. An FIR was lodged against four attendants of the deceased on Monday.
