Left impotent, man attacks friend’s kin

When a quack’s treatment to improve 40-year-old Amarjeet Singh’s sexual prowess misfired and left him impotent, Singh was filled with rage at his friend Naresh Kumar who had taken Singh to the quack.

Such was his anger that on Saturday, Singh allegedly barged into Kumar’s east Delhi residence and threw acid on the latter’s family members, including a one-and-a-half-year-old girl child.
“Singh is a bachelor and claims he had approached Kumar for a solution to his lack of sexual prowess. Kumar took him to a quack for treatment which, according to Singh, left him impotent. In order to take revenge from Kumar, he barged into his house and attacked his family with a vial of acid,” said KC Dwivedi, additional commissioner of police (east).
The incident was reported from Kumar’s residence at Trilokpuri’s block number 3 at 2 pm on Saturday. Kumar and Singh, both carpenters, work at the Dallupura wood market in east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri area.
“Kumar’s mother Ramwati (65), sister-in-law Kiran (25) and seven-year-old daughter were at home when Singh attacked them. The acid injured all three, including the little girl,” said a police officer.
However, Singh couldn’t escape as Kumar’s neighbours, alerted by the women’s screams, caught and beat him before handing him to the police.
“The victims were rushed to the adjacent Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital with severe burn injuries. Though Ramwati and her granddaughter have been discharged, Kiran, who suffered 28% burns, is still recovering,” the officer said.
According to police, Singh was Kumar’s neighbour until his landlord evicted him for not paying the rent.
“He was staying at a charitable home near Sisganj Gurudwara in Chandni Chowk. He claims another reason for his attack on Kumar’s family is the non-payment of a loan he had taken,” said the officer.
Singh has been booked for trespassing and causing grievous hurt to the victims.
“We have arrested him and are investigating the case. Both Singh’s claims are being verified and a psychological examination has been scheduled to gauge his mental health,” Additional CP Dwivedi said.
