Liquor vends to now install cctv cameras

Soon all liquor stores in Delhi will have to install CCTV cameras so that the government can monitor the functioning of the shops better. Delhi’s Excise Commissioner AK Singh said both government-run and private liquor shops would have to follow this decision taken recently.

Giving an account of revenue collection, Singh said the department collected Rs 2,027 crore as excise tax, Rs 251 crore as luxury tax and R59 crore as entertainment tax in the year 2010-11.

He said the department has set a target Rs 2,300 crore from excise tax. It has collected Rs 603 crore as excise duty from April 1 to July 12 as against Rs 516.5 crore collected in the corresponding period last year.
