A city court on Wednesday rejected her application seeking access to face cream, sunscreen and shampoo, which she called prescriptive items “essential for her skin treatment”. She asked for a dupatta too.

The court’s reason for rejecting her plea was simple: she had failed to provide a prescription for the same. However, additional sessions judge Lokesh Kumar Sharma did allow her one beauty product — a 600ml bottle of Tresemme hair fall shampoo — and leave to approach the court again, this time with a medical certificate.

Dismissing the application, the court noted that it did not contain the particulars of the cosmetics requested. Asked if he knew what brand of cosmetics she required, Singh’s lawyer was unable to furnish these details too. “The prayer will be considered only after a medical prescription,” the court decided.

Singh, a dental surgeon, was arrested along with her husband Dhananjay Singh, a BSP MP, on November 5, a day after their 35-year-old maid, Rakhi Bhadra, was found dead in the MP’s South Avenue residence. The police, in their charge sheet, said Jagriti would “mercilessly beat” her three domestic helps and “compelled” them to work by holding them captive.

Dhananjay Singh has also been charged with repeatedly raping a 42-year-old railway employee and is set to go on trial in the case shortly.
