A young woman was attacked with an axe on Wednesday morning allegedly by her husband while she was sleeping in their west Delhi residence on Wednesday with police attributing marital discord as the motive behind the crime.

Seema, who suffered injuries on her face and hands after she was allegedly attacked by her husband Tarun at their Hari Nagar residence, is battling for life in Intensive Care Unit of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.

"Tarun and Seema were not on good terms. They used to have regular fights. This morning, Tarun attacked her with an axe while she was sleeping," the official said.

After the first hit, the official said, she tried to escape.

She was seriously injured and was rushed to the hospital where doctors said she was in serious condition.

Tarun and Seema stay with their four-year-old son and parents in their house.

Soon after the incident, the official said, Tarun surrendered before the police.

Tarun works in a transport company while Seema is a beautician. A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
