Police said that the man left behind a suicide note in which he mentioned that his father, posted with the Border Security Force (BSF), had started living with some “other woman” and he could not “bear the pain in his mother’s eyes”. He said he was ending his life as a mark of protest.

The incident occurred around 1 pm when the man, identified as Jasbir Singh Bisht, set himself on fire near Gate Number 1 of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) office.

He took the extreme step close to the BSF headquarters. Police said that he was living in Mayur Vihar Phase-III and his father is working as a Sub Inspector with the BSF and is posted at Agartala.

Police said that the incident happened close to a metro construction site. No one present at the spot helped the man.

The police reached the spot and rushed him to Safdarjung Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries in the evening.
