Mohamed Salim Aliakbar was nabbed by customs officials at the IGI Airport on Friday while trying to smuggle more than 3 kg gold in his socks.

The customs officials, who caught Aliakbar, valued the jewellery at Rs.48 lakh. The passenger was intercepted by the customs officers while he was trying to walk through the Green Channel at the International Arrival Hall.

Aliakbar told the police that he had purchased the gold from Dubai to sell it in India. As per the Customs Act and Foreign Trade order, the import of gold and silver in any form is prohibited except for a exemption notification issued in this regard.
