On November 13, Yogender Chaudhary, assistant general manager at ANL, was assaulted by a mob of agitated workers outside the company premises. He later succumbed to his injuries.

ANL officials lodged a murder and rioting case against 27 workers and other 350 unidentified assailants. Police later arrested eight workers.
At the mass protest, the office bearers of the trade unions said police had refused to register the workers’ FIR.

The workers alleged that ANL officials had opened fire before the incident which had angered the workers and led them to attack Chaudhary.

“We are not heard at all. Injustice is done to those who were not involved in the attack. Over 350 families will suffer if innocent workers are arrested by police. The administration is not lodging our FIR in the case,” said trade union office bearer JP Shukla.

The protestors handed over a memorandum to the district administration officials and demanded their intervention in the case. The workers have already moved court in a bid to lodge an FIR against ANL officials.

Rajnikant Mishra, inspector general (Meerut Range), visited officials at ANL and also the scene of crime where Chaudhary was allegedly lynched by workers.

“We have directed the officials to undertake investigations in the case and no innocent worker would be put behind the bars. We will take statements from both the sides and investigate the matter thoroughly,” inspector general Mishra said.
