Mayor seeks probe into attack on office
Mayor Arti Mehra has urged Delhi L-G Tejender Khanna to direct the Police Commissioner to initiate a probe into the matter where unidentified persons had ransacked the MCD offices in Lajpat Nagar in Central zone.
The MCD Commissioner has also been asked to order a vigilance inquiry and submit a report on the matter in a week.
The Mayor has also directed the commissioner to review security arrangements and take short term as well as long-term security measures in consultation with the chief vigilance officer.
“It is imperative to develop a more efficient security system at the Town Hall as well as at zonal offices. Surveillance cameras and more armed guards need to be employed,” said Mayor Arti Mehra.
In addition to this, Mehra has also directed the commissioner to speed up the digitisation of all MCD records in order to protect them from theft or destruction. On Sunday evening, some persons armed with sticks broke into the MCD offices at Lajpat Nagar and raided the deputy commissioner’s office as well as several others.
According to the MCD, the security guards were beaten up and lock in a room while the offices were ransacked for two hours. Iron almirahs were forced open and several documents were destroyed.
A case has been registered in the matter against unidentified persons.
