According to the civic agency, one self-occupied residential property of any original owner in rural or urban villages would be exempted from paying property tax. Areas such as Mehrauli, Badarpur, Munirka village, Mahipalpur, Ghittorni, Matiyala, Neb Sarai among others would benefit from this scheme.

There is more good news in store. The civic body has also stated that a 75 per cent rebate would also be given to taxpayers for creating parking space in their basement or outside their house. This decision was taken at the MCD House meeting on Monday.

“We had held a meeting regarding this and have decided that in village abadi areas rural areas and urban villages one self-occupied residential property of any original owner will be free from property tax. The old kisaans and their legal heirs will also be exempted from payment of property tax in this category”, said Subhash Arya, Leader of the MCD House.

Moreover, if one constructs a basement and uses it for parking their vehicle, a 75 per cent property tax will be exempted for the same basement as car parking area.

According to the civic body, the rebate on property tax would encourage people to create parking space, which will solve the parking problem in the residential areas.

Meanwhile, the opposition in the MCD had demanded that the last date of payment of property tax along with the rebate should be extended to August 30, because owing to confusion regarding the property tax rates, a large number of people have not been able to pay their property tax.
