The figures were released in the wake of a “controversy” over 45,000 “fake” Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) employees illegally drawing salaries in their names.

“Against the total 1,29,615 sanctioned posts, our records show 76,933 forms have been filled for biometric registration by our employees. Additionally 2,500 have registered in our Town Hall headquarters. However, we have not included the 22,000 employees of the education department in the biometric system,” said Mehra.

While the sanctioned strength of its staff is 1,29,615, but 27,615 posts are presently lying vacant, the MCD said.

After reconciling all these figures, the gap between the total employees presently employed and those who have enrolled for the biometric system comes only to 567 posts.
