The MCD on Friday suggested an increase in the Floor Area Ratio and vertical expansion of the city to cater to the rising population. Some councillors suggested making parking space on the ground floor and water harvesting mandatory.

The suggestions will be forwarded to the Union urban development ministry, which will review the Master Plan of Delhi (MPD) 2021, for approval.
While there was a difference of opinion on the review within the BJP, most agreed that the current height for buildings at 15 metres should be increased. Some said the unauthorised regularised colonies that have been clubbed in the ‘green belt’ areas in the existing MPD should be changed to ‘residential belt’ in the review. BJP councillor Ved Prakash Gupta and Leader of the Opposition in the MCd, Jai Kishan Sharma, said the maximum height of building should be increased.
