MCD’s Facebook page a hit even before its launch
The MCD’s page on popular social networking site Facebook — yet to be officially launched — has already created a lot of fervour among people. Neelam Pandey reports.

What’s more, there is already a clone of the MCD page, claiming to be the real Facebook account for the civic agency.
While the official page, dedicated to monitoring garbage collection across the city, is called ‘MCD’, the fake one is known as Municipal Corporation of Delhi. And although there are about 200-odd people who have signed up with the official page, there are 100 others who are followers of the fake one.
“I’ve signed up on the ‘MCD’ page and I noticed someone had created another account by the same name. We tried to find out from the MCD if they had created that account but they told us they had not. We have been spreading the message that one should sign up only on the official site, as their complaints will get addressed through that medium only,” said Anita Bhargava, of ‘Let’s Do it Delhi’, a people’s initiative for cleaning the city.
According to sources, municipal commissioner KS Mehra will officially launch the 'MCD' page this week. Once the page is officially launched, residents will be able to upload pictures, videos and register any complaint related to sanitation and garbage lifting in their areas which will have to be addressed in a time-bound manner by MCD.
However, hundreds of users have already posted their complaints, asking the MCD to take action on them. “Dhalaos at Rohini sector 7 Block B-4 and C-9 are not cleaned and scattered outside from the boundary and keep stinking. People can’t pass by. Kindly take action,” posted Amit Gupta, one of the users posted on the MCD page.
The civic agency had recently decided to launch a page on the popular networking site to connect with the people and get their issues addressed.
