Men barge into house, try to kidnap woman in Bawana

Alert neighbours heard her screams of help, chased them in a car and nabbed them

Five inebriated men allegedly molested a 24-year-old woman and attempted to abduct her in their car from her house in Bawana late on Sunday night. The victim, however, was rescued by her neighbours. The neighbours chased the culprits, who were trying to flee in a car, and nabbed them.

The five men were going to Najafgarh to attend a wedding. They have been identified as Gopal, 28, Vasant, 31, Mahender, 26, Sunil Dahiya, 25, and Rajneesh, 28. All belong to Sonepat in Haryana. Gopal works in the Union Defence Ministry while Vasant is a head constable in Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).

They were booked under various IPC sections for abduction, molestation and trespass. The police confiscated their Maruti Alto car, which they had borrowed the car from a friend.

The family members of the victim said she was cooking with her mother-in-law in their makeshift kitchen when the men barged in. "They started molesting my daughter-in-law. When my wife objected, they beat her up. They began dragging my daughter-in-law towards their vehicle even as my wife screamed for help," said the victim's father-in-law.

"We were working in the nearby field when we heard them scream. We chased them in my landlord Vijender Singh's car and caught them. Our neighbours beat them up and handed them to the police," he said.

The culprits, who had been drinking heavily, were interrogated at length by the police.

Teen molested

In a similar incident, six drunk men entered the house of an 18-year-old CA student, molested her and tried to kidnap her in front of her family members in east Delhi's Kalyanpuri on Tuesday night. The accused beat up the girl's father and brother when they protested and subsequently fled. Police have registered a case and efforts are on to nab the men.
