Metro engineer involved in theft case?

A site engineer at a Delhi Metro construction site has come under the police scanner in connection with the theft of 10 tonnes of iron girders. A driver, arrested in the case, implied the engineer’s involvement, said police.

The accused has been identified as Pappu, a UP resident, who worked as a driver with Dharampal Transport Company.

Police have recovered all the stolen iron girders.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H.G.S. Dhaliwal said, “The arrest was made after the owner of the transport company reported the theft.”

Police said according to Pappu, an engineer working at the Green Park Metro site had told him he could earn money if he unloaded the girders at a scrap shop in Matiala of Uttam Nagar. “The role of the site engineer is being verified. We are looking for the scrap dealer Mukesh who is absconding,” added Dhaliwal.

Although police said a site engineer with Delhi Metro was involved, a senior Metro official said the engineer in question was not on its roll and could be employed with the contractor.

The owner of the transport company had told police he had a contract with Larsen and Tubro Company for supplying materials at Metro sites.

According to police, Pappu said scrap dealer Mukesh allegedly paid him Rs 35,000 and promised to give him another Rs one lakh later.

Pappu was arrested on Dec 12 when he came back to Delhi to take the remaining money.
