Metro reaches Chhatarpur

Just a week ahead of Janmashtami, the much-awaited Chhatarpur Metro station has been opened for commuters on Thursday morning. The station, which is built with heat-resistant steel on 26,000 sqmt area, is expecting a huge crowd on Janmashtami on September 2.

Over a lakh of devotees from different parts of Delhi would visit Shree Adya Katyayani Shakti Peeth Mandir, which is popularly known as Chhatarpur Mandir on Janmashtami every year. Temple authorities hope that this year the turnout would break all previous records. A good number of devotees would be from Gurgaon.

“Commuting used to be a massive problem so far. People used to come either in their own conveyance or public transport. But this time we are sure to have a record number of devotees, thanks to Metro,” said N. K. Sethi, in-charge of the temple on the main Gurgaon-Mehrauli Road at a stone's throw from the Metro station.

The Chhatarpur station has the largest parking area of 12,000 sqmt.

However, presently 4,000 sqmt of parking area will be available for parking where about 800 two-wheelers and 200 cars can be accommodated. “We are expecting over 50,000 people on September 2 and also over a lakh during Navratra starting from October 8,” said a DMRC spokesperson.

The station will cater to people of Chhatarpur village, Mehrauli and Vasant Kunj besides devotees.
