As per an FIR registered at the Connaught Place police station, the girl was allegedly raped in 1993. The accused, Karan Pal Singh, was arrested and chargesheeted. Singh had secured bail a year later in 1994. After that the accused and the file of the case went missing.
“The issue is serious. This is a case of alleged missing of an FIR file. Call for a report from the Additional Sessions judge concerned. Let this order be communicated to the judge today itself,” said a bench headed by Chief Justice D Murugesan and justice VK Jain after lawyer Shweta Singh brought the issue to the fore through a public interest litigation.
Singh approached the court after she received conflicting replies by the Delhi Police and the Saket court administration to RTI queries.
“Look at the sheet denial of justice. Where will the victim go now?” the lawyer told the court.
