After eluding for the past few days, heavy rains lashed the national capital for about two hours from 12:30 pm with rain gauges measuring a whopping 58.2 mm.

The maximum temperature was recorded at 35.6 deg C, two degrees above normal while the minimum settled at 25.6 deg C, one degree below normal.

High humidity levels prevailed at most places in the plains of Punjab and Haryana as the day temperatures started to increase after a gap of few days. The maximum relative humidity levels varied between 65 and 88 per cent.

Sultry weather prevailed at Hisar in Haryana, where the maximum settled at 36.5 deg C, followed by Ambala 34.9 deg C and Karnal 34 deg C.

Chandigarh recorded a high of 34.2 deg C.

In Punjab, Amritsar 35 deg C, Patiala 34.6 deg C and Ludhiana 34.1 deg C.

The MeT has forecast light to moderate rain or thunder showers at isolated places in the two states over the next two days.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall continued at most places in Rajasthan's Ajmer and Udaipur divisions and in isolated areas of Jaipur, Lota and Jodhpur till this morning.

Among other places, Aspur recorded 16 cm and Sabla received 13 cm of rainfall during the period.
