Sharda Devi (85) was allegedly deserted by her elder son, Vinod Kumar, a resident of Rohini in Delhi. The son reportedly left her alone at a solitary place near Modinagar, Ghaziabad.

August, 30, a rickshaw-puller, dropped Sharda at a gurudwara in Bazaria recently.

“The woman was in a bad state. She had scratches all over her hands and said she had been deserted by her elder son,” said Amrik Singh at the gurudwara.

Unable to hear and see properly, the woman just managed to tell people about her house in Karnal, Haryana.

Residents of Ghaziabad then contacted some persons in Karnal and found out the address of the woman’s younger son, who had separated owing to a family fued 25 years ago.

The woman had been living with her elder son since then.

The woman remained at the gurudwara for about 10 days during which she was taken care of by the residents.

Her younger son, Pramod Kumar, arrived in Ghaziabad after being contacted.

On seeing each other mother and son broke down. Pramod took her to his residence in east Delhi, only to witnesses a happy family reunion.

Friday, a three-member committee organised by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment reached Ghaziabad and enquired about the health and well-being of the woman from residents.

They later reached Pramod Kumar’s residence in Delhi and met Sharda Devi.

The ministry has announced free medical aid, wheel-chair and other benefits for the woman.

Pramod Kumar said he was happy to get his mother back and will never do what his elder brother has done.
