As per a survey conducted by Mercer India Monitor, corporate India continues to grow with many firms not only filling vacant positions but also actively recruiting new staffers.

Around 80 per cent of the over 79 companies included in survey plan to hire more people in 2010 than they did in the previous year, it said.

"Recruitment will continue through the rest of 2010 and by the year-end, 6-10 per cent of the total workforce of participating organisations is expected to consist of new hires," the Mercer report stated.

However, many companies also expect higher attrition over the next few months with the recent revival of the job market, also resulting in an increase in hiring activity.

In terms of sectors, around 60-69 per cent firms in the IT & telecom, chemical & fertilisers and pharmaceuticals sectors intend to hire more employees.

A net addition in headcount was indicated by about 81 per cent and 100 per cent companies in the manufacturing and auto sectors respectively, the report added.

More than three-fourths of the respondents planned to hire in the first half of this year, with maximum recruitment activity expected in mid-level positions of non-sales and general management.

However, when asked which functions were likely to see the most vacancies being filled, a majority of the companies surveyed said they would be recruiting for the research & development (R&D), sales & marketing, and production and manufacturing functions, it added.
