No more free calls to customer care execs

Before you make your next call to your mobile phone service operator’s helpline number, do remember — you will be billed for it.

Most mobile phone companies have added pre-recorded messages that you will hear if you call their customer care lines: only complaints can still be lodged free of cost.

If you have an enquiry and more so, if you get beyond the plethora of taped messages and actually speak to an executive, you will have to pay call charges.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India had okayed charging for such calls in March this year, but it is only now that telecom companies have begun doing so.
