Fresh from their victory in having forced the panel of top judges responsible for appointments and promotions (collegium) to put off its plans to promote Dinakaran to the Supreme Court, the jurists mounted further pressure on the CJI to take action against him.

HT had first reported on September 14 that eminent lawyers had objected to the collegium’s recommendation to promote Dinakaran, citing serious corruption charges.

“The collegium has been forced to review and hold back its recommendation for promotion after allegations against him surfaced. How can such a judge continue,” asked veteran jurist Ram Jethmalani.
