They were called to identify the dead bodies of the gangsters on Tuesday at the AIIMS Trauma centre. For these victims it was reliving the horror.

Malkit Singh, brother of Gurmeet Singh, the property dealer who was shot 16 times by Bunty and his goons in Sangam Vihar area on July 5, was one of the few who identified the bodies.

“After seeing their body, I finally believed that they are dead. I was about to get my brother married. We had found a girl for him in Punjab. Bunty ruthlessly gunned him down. We finally got justice on the auspicious night of Janamashtami,” he said.

Singh’s house is just one lane away from Bunty’s house in Sangam Vihar.

Tarun, who was shot in the abdomen by Bunty’s associates within a few hours of shooting of Gurmeet Singh, was also present to identify the bodies.

“They shot me without any reason. It was not even my motorcycle. I still do not understand the reason behind shooting me. I recognised Rajesh as soon as I saw his body,” he said.

Police said the whole exercise was a part of the extra judicial test identification parade (TIP), which is generally done when the accused are dead.

The post mortem has been conducted but the panel has to still submit their report.

To claim Rajesh’s body, his father Om Prakash had come.

A resident of Chalera village in Noida Sector-IV, Prakash is from a poor background, a far cry from his son’s flashy lifestyle.

He said, “My son is dead, I do not want to talk anymore about it.” Rajesh’s body was taken back to his village for cremation.

But the dead body of the most wanted man who was being continuously hunted by as many as 5,000 policemen is now finding no takers. His family members have still not come forward to claim his body.

His cousin Shiv Charan, a cable operator in Sangam Vihar, was persuaded by the police to come forward and identify the body.

“I have come here because the police asked me to. My whole family has got nothing to do with him. I will not claim his body. His family will decide if they want to cremate him or not,” he said.

According to the police if no one claims the body in the next two days, they will be bound to cremate him.
