Over 14.5 lakh students to take class 10, 12 examinations

Over 14.5 lakh students across the country will appear in this year’s class 10th and class 12th CBSE examinations beginning from March 2.

Over 14.5 lakh students across the country will appear in this year’s class 10th and class 12th CBSE examinations beginning from March 2.

This year a total 14,62,016 students will take the examinations, which is 1,46,985 more than the last year. Last year, 13,15,031 students took the examinations, a statement from the Central Board for Secondary Examination said.

About 8,24,438 students -- 4,87,475 boys and 3,36,963 girls -- would take the class 10th examinations while 6,37,578 -- 3,73,330 boys and 2,64,248 girls -- the class 12th.

Both the examinations would begin from March 30 but class 10th examinations would end on March 30 and class 12th on April 2. The secondary examinations will be held at 2,714 centres and class 12th at 2,506 centres across the nation.

Last year, class 10th examinations were conducted at 2,490 centres in 8,804 schools while class 12th exams were held at 2,276 centres in 5,614 schools.

This year, 3,935 students with special abilities -- 2,228 for class 10th and 1,707 for class 12th -- will appear.

CBSE has made special provisions for blind students, who can take class 10th and class 12th examinations at 14 centres, including two foreign ones.
