On Wednesday, the Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police shot off questionnaires to all the successful allottees in the General Category and directed them to join the investigations. They will be made witnesses, if they complain about misuse of their personal information.
"We have summoned all the successful General Category allottees, and have asked them to provide specific details regarding the application forms. They need to reply within 15 days," said SBK Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police (EOW). Failure in replying to the questionnaire (see box) could invite "criminal proceedings".
"The allottees can reply to us through mail or come over to our office," said Singh.
Asma Manzar, Housing Commissioner, DDA, however, said, "We are carrying out physical verification of all successful allottees; we are not aware of what EOW is doing.
Official suspect
ML Gautam, a retired clerk involved in the scam, had been running his office from a flat in Peeragarhi, which belonged to a DDA official. Police said they have not found the "rent agreement" that the DDA official signed with Gautam. Police said the official could be booked under "criminal conspiracy" and "violating section 188 IPC."
Quest for diary
Gautam kept a diary in which he maintained the details of all the applicants and his contacts. "This diary is crucial for us,”said Singh.
