The doctors are on strike since Sunday to protest against the assault by relatives of another patient who died in the hospital on Saturday evening.

The relatives of the girl who died on Tuesday filed case of negligence against the doctors. A scuffle also ensued between the patients and the doctors after they allegedly refused treatment to the girl.

On Saturday evening, a child was brought to the hospital casualty in a critical condition due to copper sulphate poisoning. The doctors could not save the child after which family members barged into the medicine ward and assaulted the intern treating the child.

The doctors and nurses had to lock themselves inside the ward to save themselves.

Immediately after the incident, all the resident doctors suspended work. "We have sent our demands to the medical superintendent. Until he aggress, we won't resume work," said Dr Apurva Mehra, President resident doctors' association, GTB.
