Patil gets it Left & Right

Beleagured Shivraj Patil, who finally stepped down as Home Minister on Sunday, has very few friends left in the political class, going by rather harsh reactions on his resignation, reports HT Correspondent.

BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley said the UPA is following a weak policy against terror and Patil’s resignation was “too little too late”. Going a step further, party leader, Ravi Shankar Prasad, said the government “which was sleeping when the country was attacked should resign and not Patil alone”.

Even allies did not mince words. Patil’s critic in the Cabinet, Railways Minister Lalu Prasad said: “ The decision was delayed too much.”

The Left echoed the BJP. CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta said: “Patil should have resigned much earlier. Why did he delay it so much?” CPM leader Brinda Karat, however, was not impressed by the resignation. She described it a symbolic step, “which was hardly enough.
