Physically challenged trader robbed in Geeta colony

A 45-year-old physically challenged businessman dealing in garment stickers was robbed of his bag containing Rs 20 lakh in cash and demand drafts worth Rs 5 lakh by two armed bike-borne assailants in east Delhi's Geeta Colony area on Sunday morning. HT reports.

A 45-year-old physically challenged businessman dealing in garment stickers was robbed of his bag containing Rs 20 lakh in cash and demand drafts worth Rs 5 lakh by two armed bike-borne assailants in east Delhi's Geeta Colony area on Sunday morning.

The spot where the businessman was robbed was just metres away from the Geeta Colony police station. According to sources, a policeman with his motorcycle was present near the spot where the miscreants committed the crime. But he could not start his motorcycle and the criminals fled.

Gagan Kapoor, a resident of Chander Nagar, was riding his Activa scooter towards his shop in Gandhi Nagar market. "Kapoor was near the Geeta Colony police station when two men on a motorcycle waylaid him. They hit Kapoor's scooter with their two-wheeler after which he fell off," said an officer.

The miscreants, the officer said, threatened Kapoor and asked him to part with his bag. "When Kapoor tried to protest, the assailants pointed a gun and a knife at him to intimidate him, snatched his bag and fled," the senior officer added.

As soon as the miscreants escaped, Kapoor raised an alarm and approached a policeman who was standing close to the spot. "The victim asked the cop to chase the assailants. But he failed as he could not start his motorcycle on time," said a police source.

The police have registered a case in this regard and are looking for the assailants. Teams were formed to nab them.
