The Delhi Police has also been asked to file a status report on April 29. The tribunal has made North Delhi Municipal Corporation a party in the case.

A bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar has ordered the deputy commissioner of police of the area to file a status report on the next date of hearing on April 29.

The bench also made the north corporation a respondent in the case. The tribunal's order came on the pleas of city residents Satish Kumar and Mahavir Singh, who have alleged that burning of plastic and leather has not stopped despite a 2010 Delhi High Court order prohibiting such activity.

"The counsel for the applicant submits that despite the high court order dated January 6, 2010, different units are carrying on with the activity of burning leather and plastic. This has been causing serious environmental hazards... We direct the police commissioner, NCT of Delhi, to ensure that no leather and plastic burning is permitted...," the bench said.
