Police is yet to find any "cognisable evidence" to register a case in the controversial allotment of over 5,000 houses recently by Delhi Development Authority (DDA) despite investigating the matter for about three weeks.

The Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police's Crime Branch is investigating into a complaint that it received on December 16 that some property dealers had connived with DDA officials and applied for flats under fictitious names to get the flats under SC/ST quota.

"We are verifying the contents of the complaint. So far, we have not found any cognisable evidence to register a case," Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said on Monday.

Investigators are checking whether any offences have been committed in the case, Bhagat said adding, "once we find out that a forgery has taken place or a cognisable offence has taken place, we will register a case." Asked whether any DDA official was questioned in connection with the suspected irregularities in the allotment, he said they were collecting relevant information.

Police had last week questioned a Chandigarh-based chartered accountant, who is believed to have "facilitated bank loans to some fictitious applicants" so that some property dealers can get houses for SC/STs.
