An exclusive report in Hindustan Times, on Monday, said the city police guided Mukherjee to a wrong destination on his December 19 visit.

Mukherjee, who has a z-plus category security, was in Mumbai for a function to award the “best banks” at the Oberoi Trident in Bandra-Kurla, about 15 minutes from the airport.

Instead, his local security took him to another hotel by the same name at Nariman Point, an hour’s drive from the airport.

“We have sought a factual report from the state government in view of the news report,” a security official in Delhi said.

A similar faux pas over a VVIP’s security took place in Kerala in 2006 when the driver of the car leading a motorcade, deviated from its planned route after following directions given by policemen in the car.
