The decision to empower the Host Broadcast Management Committee (HBMC) was taken at a meeting of Prasar Bharati Board in New Delhi.

The HBMC, chaired by the Prasar Bharati CEO, will comprise the Member (Finance), Member (Personnel), Doordarshan Director General, Engineer-in-Chief of Doordarshan, AIR Director General and Engineer-in-Chief of AIR.

The HBMC is "hereby authorised to accord the requisite approvals and take the requisite steps in respect of the successful completion (broadcast) of the Commonwealth Games Delhi, 2010," a resolution adopted at the Prasar Bharati Board meeting said.

The Prasar Bharati Board also directed that all the government and other approvals shall be sought and obtained by the respective Director General, as required from time to time, after due approval of the CEO who will keep the Board apprised of the status in this regard on monthly basis, the resolution said.

The decision to authorise the committee ends the controversy over the telecast issue as some members had been questioning the capability and capacity of the public broadcaster to broadcast the mega multi-disciplinary sporting event.
