Advani said, “The poor and middle classes have already been groaning under the burden of unprecedented rise in the prices of all essential goods and services, caused by government’s mismanagement of the economy.”

“Now, in another act of insensitivity and betrayal, the government has taken a decision that is bound to have a cascading effect on prices. This will impoverish crores of Indian families,” he said.

Seizing the situation, the BJP asked PM Manmohan Singh to quit, calling him and the government “dysfunctional.”

BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said, “It is a black day. The UPA government has unleashed economic terror on the nation. Today’s decision defies all economic logic on the stated stand of the Prime Minister to check inflation. The dysfunctional government and the Prime Minister have once again shown their true colours. They have messed up the country’s economy.”

Rudy added that the “disdainful insensitivity” exhibited to the “aam admi” would trigger mass unrest for which the UPA government will be solely responsible.
