District magistrate Hridesh Kumar initiated a magisterial inquiry into the deaths of two persons who reportedly died of starvation.

Kumar, however, refuted the allegations before ordering the investigation. “We have recorded statements from local residents, and each one of them denied the deaths due to starvation,” he said.
Kumar said that the inquiry would take 15 days and officials have been sent to the villages to find out what led to the deaths.
Reports of the deaths, which occurred in two villages of Meerut and Ghaziabad districts respectively, were published in local newspapers. The issue flared up after local politicians visited the victims’ houses.
