Scores of people blocked traffic movement on the busy Dwarka-Airport flyover during morning rush hour on Saturday protesting lack of water in Bijwasan and Rajnagar constituencies.

Alleging that the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is giving them “step-motherly treatment”, residents of Rajnagar, Mahipalpur, Dhulsiras, Kapashera, Bijwasan and surrounding areas blocked the traffc both over and under the flyover. The people demanded adequate supply of water tankers till the time underground reservoirs are put in use to accommodate water supply from the command tanks. “If the chief minister also the chairperson of the DJB does not pay attention to our problems, we will stage an indefinite dharna at her residence,” said a resident.
Bijwasan and Rajnagar and scores of other south-west Delhi areas face water woes as the Dwarka water treatment plant (capacity 40 million gallon per day) is not functional. The DJB has been banking on additional water from Munak canal and fighting over it with Haryana.
Meanwhile, near Indraprastha Millenium Park, a missing valve cover from a pipeline led to water wastage for several hours.
“It was some anti-social element who had tampered with the valve. It was not a pipeline leakage and our staff tended to the fault immediately,” said a senior DJB official.
