“He used to drink and aspired to be a womaniser, but ended up stalking women,” said a senior police officer requesting anonymity, as he was not authorised to speak to the media.

The police said that he was involved in cases of stalking back home in Sitapur as well. “Those were not reported but we came to know that he was involved in such cases,” said HGS Dhaliwal, deputy commissioner of police (south).

Vijay was born and brought up in Sitapur in Vishwan district. The son of a small-time farmer, he has four brothers; one of whom died a while ago.

According to the said his relationship with his family was strained, and in the last four years, he never visited his hometown. They said his father Radhey Shyam severed all contacts with him after he was caught stalking women.
