Railways to set up bridge factory in J&K

In its effort to facilitate the speedy completion of the Jammu and Kashmir rail link project, the Railways have finalised a proposal to set up a bridge factory in the state.

In its effort to facilitate the speedy completion of the Jammu and Kashmir rail link project, the Railways have finalised a proposal to set up a bridge factory in the state.

The prestigious J&K rail link project involves a large number of bridges. The bridge factory will be set up in Jammu and will manufacture bridge girders.

Announcing the proposal in the 2011-12 Rail Budget in Lok Sabha, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "This industry will help in developing ancillary industries to leading to employment generation in the area."

Besides the bridge factory, she also announced setting up of an advanced Institute for Tunnel and Bridge Engineering in Jammu.
