Heavy shower and strong thunderstorm uprooted as many as 39 trees in the Capital.

Besides, a number of buildings collapsed and house roofs were blown away by the strong winds. Waterlogging at many arterial roads caused inconvenience to commuters during peak hours.

According to official sources, out of the 39 trees that failed to withstand the storm, 35 were in the MCD area and two each in NDMC and Gole Market areas.

MCD officials said walls and roofs collapsed at four places in Rohini and Central zones.

Traffic was also thrown out of gear at many places and arterial roads during peak hours due to waterlogging, causing inconvenience to commuters.

Some of the roads that came under water after the morning shower include Gali no 10 Anand Parvat, Azadpur T-point, Mayapuri, Mathura Road-Bhairon Road T-point, Bagga Link Road (roundabout), Mall Road in Civil Lines, ITO, Mahindra Park, Ashok Vihar, Chatta Rail, Britannia Chowk, Jahangirpuri Metro station, ISBT Outgate, Azad Market area, Service Lane of Netaji Subhas Place and Minto Bridge, said Delhi traffic police.

During evening hours, a high- tension wire broke near sector 11 and 19 intersection in Dwarka, leading to traffic jam on both sides of the roads in Dwarka sector 11.

The squall also affected flight movements. At least five flights were diverted in the wee hours on Saturday, officials said. While Go Air's Bengaluru-Delhi was diverted to Jaipur, Jet Aiways' Udaipur-Delhi and Mumbai-Delhi flights were also routed to Pink City. Emirates' Dubai–Delhi flight was diverted to Lahore. Besides, one cargo flight was also diverted.
