Profession: Chauhan’s family deals in plastic scrap and also have a factory of footwear. Chauhan’s two sons now manage the business.

Education: Studied till Class XII.

Political career: Chauhan fought his first Assembly election in 1993 and won. “I was re-elected in 1998 and 2003 and the victory margin kept increasing,” he said. He was made the minister of education and social welfare in 2001. Chauhan was minister of urban development, public works department and irrigation in the Sheila Dikshit government.

Family: Wife Kamla Chauhan is a homemaker. They have two sons and a daughter. Chauhan starts his day by feeding ants in the park. Despite a busy schedule, Chauhan tries to take some time out for his family. “Spending time with my grandson works as a stress buster.”

Cars: Chauhan does not own a car, he travels in his official Ambassador. The fleet of cars his sons own includes a Skoda, a Hyundai Accent and a Honda Accord.
