A 45-year-old woman was killed by her own son when she refused to lend him money at their northeast Delhi residence on Friday, police said.

Identified as Hamra Khatoon, a resident of Bhajanpura’s K block, she fell to her death after her son, Mohammad Shahid, according to police, pushed her during a heated argument.

“According to the accused’s father, Mohammad Shahid, the incident followed his wife’s refusal to loan Shahid money at their Gangotri Vihar residence on Friday afternoon,” said a senior police officer.

Police said Shahid started manhandling his mother after she refused to give him money and starting assaulting her at the end of a heated argument.

Soon, as his siblings Ruby, Nargis and Nasreen rushed to their mother’s aid and, Shahid, in a hurry to escape, shoved his mother when she tried to block his exit, police said.

“The shove sent her hurtling to the floor head-first. We reached the spot and rushed her to the GTB Hospital where doctor’s said she had already died,” the officer said. A case of murder has been registered and police are looking for Shahid.
