Revenue collection up by 23%

According to a government communique, the state government has collected R14,511 crore from April 2011 to December 2011 in comparison to R11,822 crore collected between April 2010 and December 2010.

Economic slowdown notwithstanding, the Delhi government claims to have collected record revenue in the ongoing financial year. Chief minister Sheila Dikshit said that her government had collected 23% more revenue in first nine months of the current fiscal in comparison to that in 2010-2011, during the same period.

According to a government communique, the state government has collected Rs 14,511 crore from April 2011 to December 2011 in comparison to Rs 11,822 crore collected between April 2010 and December 2010.

“The tax collection during the nine months of the current financial year has been Rs 14,511 crore as against the annual target of Rs 20,246 crore, which comes to about 72% of the determined target. We are certain to show a record growth of 20-25% on our targeted collection by the time the financial year ends,” said a senior Delhi government official.

Thanks to Delhi ‘s love for swanky wheels, the taxes on registration of motor vehicles witnessed a staggering growth of 61% till December 2011 in comparison to the same period in the last fiscal year.

Though the government also increased tax on vehicles last year, senior government officials said the sale of cars and two-wheelers would continue to rise.
